You can view, download, or print the entire athletic department handbook here.
However, here are a few of the expectations we would like to emphasize:
- There is a state-sanctioned eligibility requirement and also a district-enforced eligibility requirement. For a detailed description, click here.
- Students must have a physical on file in order to practice or compete. Download the MHSAA form here, and turn it in to the HS athletic office.
- Practice attendance is mandatory every M-F that we do not have a meet. Practice goes from 3:30-5:30, although the end time may vary depending on the day or the location. Each student has been given three "personal days" to use when attendance is not possible. In order to use a personal day, students need to communicate with a coach before practice. More information is in our team handbook.
- Pay-to-participate fees must be taken care of before spring break. Fees can be turned in at the school, or paid online here (you will need to set up an account and know your student's school ID number). For a complete description of the district's pay-to-participate policy, click here.
- At our four KVA meets, students are expected to stay at the meet until the last G-A runner is finished. At multi-team meets/invitationals, students may sign out after the completion of their last event.
- Our district does not provide a bus ride home from any meet that is less than 35 miles from school. When no return-bus is available, students need to sign out with a coach before leaving. A student may ONLY ride home from a meet with his/her parent/guardian, OR with another parent who is on the district's "approved driver" list. If you plan on attending meets, please visit the admin office and get yourself on this list, so that you can help provide rides home to other students.
- Practice on Labor Day weekend is "semi-optional." Basically this means that if you are in town, you should come. If you had prior family commitments, your absences will be excused.
- Hazing will not be tolerated in any form and can result in suspensions, expulsions or criminal charges. The National Federation of State High School Associations defines hazing as, "any humiliating or dangerous activity expected of a student to belong to a group, regardless of their willingness to participate." For more info click here.
- If you as a parent has a concern that needs to be addressed with a coach, please set up an appointment, rather than attempting to do so during a practice, during a meet, or immediately following a meet. If you feel you have the need to take the issue further, please contact our athletic director.
- If you think your child is a potential Division I or II college athlete, please contact our athletic director or high school counselor to make sure an NCAA Clearinghouse form is submitted as early as your student's junior year. This will help your student know which classes to take to fulfill NCAA requirements.
- There is an inherent risk associated with participation in high school track and field. Your child could be injured, possibly seriously. Please be aware of this risk and communicate any concerns with the coaching staff.
